Never ending competition

20160702_165419

“Dua te jetoj ne mal!” was my status a while ago, which means literally “I want to live in the mountain!”.

I was driven by the idea of escaping the “modern” world, from the system that fuels it. System, we, people make happen everyday. Like it or not, I am part of it myself, so I wanted to escape from me. The part of me that is driven by vanity, envy, jealousy, competition, ambition and I don’t know other words, synonyms ending in “tion”.

So all of these routines, going to work, become “money making machines” for our own well being, but mostly others, unless you are Bill Gates and the money you make, well goes to you! So yeah, getting back to my point, earning money… lots of money possibly… hhmmm so we can spend more money… buy a new car, buy a new cell phone, a new watch, some change of garderobe wouldn’t harm either, go to some fancy restaurants and clubs, taking a nice and amazing destination for your vacations where none of your friends or friends of your friends you have met once in a glamorous party, but who cares, you know they are popular, or famous or well known for their high social or political status, so they matter… of course they do; have ever had the chance to go yet… HA-HAAAA you are the first one to explore it. Oh and of course booking a fancy hotel, can’t wait to check for the room, it’s not a room… it’s a suite… deeeetaaaiils… hhhmmmph! And then the view… or views… the rides, the spots you visit… I am ending it here because now comes the climax. Now, would this all matter if you didn’t take pictures, of every single step you make? And remember, it’s appropriate a “decent” number of photos, “decent” quality and moreover, some “decent” people to take pictures with… then it’s facebook, instagram, tumblr etc etc… and now you officially made history.

People watch your pictures, how happy you are, how amazing your life is, how busy you are at your work, but you love what you do right? 😉 I bet you dooo, as we all dooo… mmm or try to make it look that way… oh whatever… again deeeetaaaiils!

People see how much you care about yourself, your well being, fitness, that new center with the yoga teacher? Awsome oh and while at it, some zumba? Yeah! You’ve also read about a new fitness discipline HIIT, which is a time saver, but no one practices it yet in Tirana, and you show your disappointment on the social media, how old fashioned our capital still is compared to the rest. Right, like that is the only thing Tirana lacks, or our country that is… but hey your status requires you to costantly keep up with updates. Going on with clothes, eating healthy, but you like to party hard from time to time and show that you had too much alcohol to drink the previous night, just because you enjoy getting wasted… not to brag how much you actually spent on buying all those drinks… right?

You are happy! You see that other fellows on the socials do the same as you do. You see their smiling faces and the joy spreading from the photos, a virtual osmosis taking place from you cell screen in the air you breathe… you start to think maybe, just maybe they are happier than you are… they are better than you… you go again, you need to do something else and “win” again… the social competition…

    1. Thank you Sahil 🙂
That's my goal in fact... sometimes I find myself being the victim of this race and I needed this to realize how twisted it is. Hope that people who read it realize that too.

  2. Bang on point! Especially the one about taking pictures! Today you haven't really enjoyed anything unless you have accompanying photos for every moment spent!

    1. Exactly, because you need acknowledgment for everything you do, otherwise your self esteem pays the cost. Making memories through photos is important, but sharing beyond any limit becomes unhealthy. That's what we need to understand.
