Next week I am going on vacation. I can’t describe how excited I am. Everything has been planned and scheduled, some things to be handled before leaving the city, but the most important tasks already checked.
A few little details are still in pending, and when you have plenty of time ahead, the estimated impact looks insignificant, but when time is due it might look nerve breaking.
Right away! Packing. Suitcase (there might be some of us: which size of suitcase to take or how many!!!)
First things first: How many days are you staying away? 5? Ok, then think in advance the outfit/s you are going to wear every day, i.e. two combos/per day. This will be life and specially time-saving.
Try to choose some items that can be suitable for different combinations, so you won’t need to take several things when you can take just one or two and spare yourself the worry of: a. wearing what and how b. how much space and weight is going to take in overall.
Then be sure that you take all that is necessary, what actually are you going to use or wear, which means: NOT what you think you will, because you recently purchased some amazing skirts or dresses and you love them so much and can’t wait to wear them! I am sure, you get my hint. If you take things you are not wearing because: not the right place/occasion or not comfortable enough then don’t. Shoes? Split them in different cloth bags, so you can have more room.
And the apparently irrelevant, cute, little, light boxes filled with miracle substances we call make up/beauty products? A tragedy! Sooooo many and all look the same important and indispensable.
I know that lots of us, during the years have basically managed to build a store of all kind of beauty products, but try to be reasonable.
Personally, I am not very keen to wear too much make up on summer. It feels like melting down my face and I don’t feel comfortable with it.
However my list of the strictly necessary: hydration cream, protection cream (face+body), coconut oil, almond oil, primer or corrector, blush, mascara, lipstick as for cleaning my skin I use: miscellaneous water, cleaning milk. And I am sure it still looks too much.
By all means be pragmatic by keeping in mind these questions:
What’s your destination?
What places are you going to visit?
How many days are you staying?
What kind of activities are you getting engaged with: walking? hiking? a concert maybe? partying? fancy restaurants? etc..
When you answer these questions accurately (the more accurate the better) you will be able to figure out what you will get for your journey. You can also take a couple of extra items, for a possible, unpredictable event, just in case, but don’t overdo it.
Make a list if it helps, run through the list, if you have second thoughts about some items, then probably you won’t need them with you. If besides the carry on you have a luggage, don’t stuff it with all sort of things. Where you are going there might nice shopping spots for clothes or souvenirs. Why worry about more room in your suitcase, paying extra weight or extra luggage fees?
Think about it and let me know 😉 What did I forget to mention?
